Review of the New Scree Hiking Shoes from Vasque

First and foremost the soles stick to the rock perfectly. There’s no doubt these are Stealth Rubber soles. These shoes stick to the rock as good as the Five Ten Stealth Rubber hiking shoes.
What really makes these hiking shoes stand out above the Five Tens are the construction and comfort. You can tell these shoes will take a beating and not fall apart. They are better constructed than the Five Tens.
I like the reinforced rubber  toe box and the leather uppers.
I normally need Superfeet insoles to protect the bottom of my feet. I do not need them when I wear the Screes.
They are lightweight also. 1.2 pounds each. Only two ounces heavier than the Five Tens.
They are as comfortable as your favorite pair of house slippers.
I even like the lacing system.
I highly recommend them.
I am trying to work a deal for members of Hiking Las Vegas and Meetup.com/Hiking-Las-Vegas.

The above photo is the Scree Low 7090 model. They also have a mid model for ankle support.

Follow Up Report on Vasque Hiking Boots

We are back from our trip to the Sierra. How did the Vasque boots fair in the High Sierra? Anyone who has mountaineered in the Sierra knows the rough terrain: boulder fields, talus, and scree. The correct boots are really crucial if you want happy feet! The Vasque Breeze hiking boots did not disappoint.
Here's what I liked:

  • No break-in period
  • Extremely lightweight
  • Very comfortable - no blisters or hotspots
  • High top for additional ankle support and help keep rocks out of the boots
  • Durable. No visible wear.

Final verdict: Great backpacking and mountaineering boot. Good for hikes in Mt. Charleston and the Sierra. They are so comfortable you can use them on trails. They would not be my first choice for Red Rock hikes. They do not have sticky rubber soles.
Highly recommended!

Vasque Breeze Hiking Boots

Vasque sent me a pair of their Breeze hiking boots to test. I have not hiked in them yet, but here are my first impressions:

  • Extremely light! They feel as light as my Five-Tens.
  • Very comfortable so far. (I have only worn them to the gym.)
  • Well constructed.
  • Good lacing system with heavy duty shoe laces.
These boots are made for mountaineering type hikes. They are good for Mt. Charleston hikes (off trail) and the Sierra. They do NOT have a sticky rubber sole, so they would not be good for hikes on sandstone (Red Rock Canyon).

Vasque informed me they will be releasing a new model Jan. 2011, that will have Stealth Rubber soles. This is good news. I and many others all time favorite hiking boot was the Vasque Catalyst model. They have been discontinued for awhile.

I will take them to the Sierra and hike in them soon. Look for a full report in the next few weeks.
