Gray Cap Peak - One of the Best Scramble in Red Rock

Why is Gray Cap Peak (5,386 feet) such a good hike? It's the route. The hike follows most of the route to Twin Tanks, which is fantastic. There's lots of scrambling and some airy traverses to keep it interesting.  After leaving the Twin Tanks route, the hike picks up a path in the limestone to the peak. There's also a great descent route that has plenty of fun down climbs and is much shorter than the ascent route. There's enough elevation gain to make the hike a good workout and since the trailhead is out of Calico Basin/Red Springs, there's no Scenic Loop to drive.

Members can download this hike now. 12 photos, 16 waypoints and a gpx file guarantees you will be able to follow the route. The route has also been re-cairned to make it easier to follow.

My Rant: On September 30th the gate at Calico Basin/Red Springs was still closed at 9 a.m. It should have been open at 6 a.m. This is just days after the fiasco over closing the Scenic Loop three hours early. What are these people thinking?
