Oak Creek Overlook And Painted Bowl

Today (3-15), nine hikers followed one of the wildest routes in Red Rock Canyon. Oak Creek Overlook sits high above Oak Creek Canyon on the south side. I first spotted it while hiking to the Painted Bowl a few years ago.

The route looks impossible, but goes at class 4. There's an airy face climb the route ascends. Near the summit a class 5 crack is aided with a rope. The summit has a great view of Rainbow Peak. In fact you can see Photographic Ledge.
After descending the route we headed over to the Painted Bowl in the north fork of Oak Creek Canyon. This is a relatively easy destination with great views.

Notes: Both routes are well cairned. Shin put an additional sign in book at Oak Creek Overlook.
