Mt. Charleston Update

There's still a lot of snow in Mt. Charleston. Today (3-18), I hiked Fletcher Canyon. There was lots of snow beginning beyond the first mile. I was trying to get to Obstacle Rock, but there was too much snow. In fact at one point I was on a snow bridge about 12 feet above running water. It was getting a little too risky for me. I made it within 100 yards of Obstacle Rock.

Cathedral Rock picnic area is closed. From what I have been told it will stay closed until the snow melts. Not sure about the fines for snowshoeing in the Cathedral Rock area, but I have heard the rumors. I did see a few people coming out of the area. I will try to find out the official story soon.
