Perfect Winter Time Hike: Eagle Mtn

Today Richard, Eva, Dave, and Mel hiked Eagle Mountain. With Red Rock covered in snow and ice, this is a great winter time hike. Eagle Mountain rises from the desert floor all alone. It's located about five miles south of the Opera House by Death Valley Junction. The only way to reach the peak is to traverse an airy ridge as seen in the photo to the right. The mountain has great rock for a desert peak. The route is well cairned and a high clearance vehicle is not needed to reach the trailhead. It's a three mile hike (up and back) with an elevation gain of 1,800 feet. Plan on taking 3 to 4 hours to complete the hike. Members of www.hikinglasvegas.com can download the step by step route directions. There's no trail to the summit.
