Mt. Moriah

This weekend we are off to do Mt. Moriah, the fifth highest peak in Nevada. I have never hiked Moriah before, but have heard good things about it. We will car camp Friday night and hike Moriah via Hampton Creek route on Saturday. It's 15.8 miles round trip with almost 5,000 feet of elevation gain, a good day's work.

Being located in Central Nevada, it will be much cooler than the 100+ degree days we are experiencing and a welcome relief. Camping should be perfect with the cooler temperatures and no light pollution. Hopefully we will have a clear sky with about a billion stars.

Sunday is up in the air. We might do a hike in Great Basin National Park. It depends on how everyone feels. I have done Wheeler Peak, the second highest peak in Nevada several years ago. It also has a good trail leading all the way to the summit. Either way I am sure it will be a great trip. Look for the hike description of Mt. Moriah in the Member's Only section of this web site soon. Wheeler Peak is already in the MO section.
