Sierra Trip Report - The Best Ever!

This year was the best trip to the Sierra ever and I have taken too many trips to the Sierra to remember! Early Saturday morning found Dana, Peter, Mark, Wrong Way, and yours truly at the Mt. Whitney trailhead. It was Dana's first big mountain and we were doing the Mountaineer's Route to Whitney, not the trail. The improvement on the route from where we leave the normal Mt. Whitney trail to Lower Boy Scout Lake was unbelievable. It is so easy to follow now. We kept a decent pace to Upper Boy Scout Lake. Mark and Wrong Way left us to climb Mt. Russell via the East Ridge. Mark had never climbed Mt. Russell and Wrong Way had done Whitney too many times to remember. So Peter, Dana and I carried on to Mt. Whitney. We filtered water at Iceburg Lake before tackling the gully that leads to the summit. By high noon the three of us were standing on the highest point in the contiguous United States. And that's when the magic happened. Oh yeah!!! Well, this blog is about hiking, so I guess I will stick to the subject :) Dana handled the route with ease and Peter was as amazing as ever. From the summit we saw Mark and Wrong Way on Mt. Russell.
Part 2 tomorrow... Our final attempt at Mt. Corcoran
