Macks and Mummy

This weekend we hiked Mack's Peak on Saturday and Mummy Mountain on Sunday. The snow is melting fast, but north facing routes will still have a lot of snow. Both Mack's Peak and Mummy were snow free and both routes were in good shape. The horse trough along the North Loop trail has drinkable water coming out of a pipe.
A word of caution: Test your handholds when climbing in Mt. Charleston. There's a lot of loose rock. We kicked down a few rocks in a chute just below Mummy. Another tip: Always bring a windbreaker. Many of the peaks are windy. Forget the cotton t-shirts. Wear clothing that wicks moisture away from your body. If you are wet from sweating at the peak and it's windy, you will be cold.
