The Scenic Loop at Red Rock Canyon will start closing at 7 pm beginning March 1. This is perfect since Daylight Saving Time begins on March 9th. After the time change it will not be getting dark until almost 7 pm. This means you can start a hike at noon and have seven hours before it gets dark!
Today (2-29), we hiked through Pine Creek Canyon on our way to Mescalito. There's lots of water in all the canyons now. With all the snow yet to melt, the canyons might have water in them for a long time. The water is scenic and relaxing. However, there can be downsides. The water makes for slower travel and can make the rocks slippery. Plan your hikes accordingly.
